♥ posted on January 21, 2010The holidays are over, we’re back to work/school and boredom, restlessness and that infuriating “BLAHHHHHHHHHH” feeling is inevitable for some of us. If you’re stuck in a winter rut, here are a few things you can do to snap out of it! Organize your closet. This isn’t the most exciting task in the world, but it needs to be done and it will look and feel awesome when you’re done! Get rid of clothes you haven’t worn in a year (that you don’t have sentimental attachment to of course!), anything stained or ripped beyond repair and anything that doesn’t fit properly. It can be nice to have an honest friend around for this, so that if you’re unsure about how anything looks on you, you have an outsider’s point of view. Have you seen the Sex and the City movie? I love the scene where all of the girls have Keep/Toss cards and have a mock-fashion show while Carrie is packing up her closet. Could be fun! Learn to cook something wonderfully. Perfect your lasagna recipe. Master angel food cake. Or, learn how to make a perfect martini. Whatever! Make a day of it and feed your friends! (Or get them drunk…) Redesign your blog. Make the most kick-ass layout the blogosphere has ever seen! I love looking at design sites like Smashing Magazine for inspiration. Work out. Create a workout plan or find one online and get started! I like the looks of this yoga routine and this boot camp workout. It’s always a good time to start getting in shape. Have a party. Invite all of your friends over for food, drinks & games. I loooove hosting parties but haven’t been able to in ages since we don’t have our own place, so I’m planning on hosting the most epic housewarming party EVER when we move. SO PUMPED. Stop watching television. Television breeds boredom if you watch it like most people. (The average American watches like 5 hours of TV a day.. SICK!) There’s certainly nothing wrong with watching your favorite show, but stop having the TV “on for noise” during the day.. So pointless! If you must have some background noise, play some music. Explore. As the mother of a 4 month old, I don’t get out much. It’s not all that often that I leave the house to do something other than run to the store. If you’re in the same boat (whether it’s because you’re a mom too, or a student, or you work at home), take a day to just get out of the house and do something enjoyable. Get your nails or hair done, go out to eat, blog from your favorite coffee shop, go see a movie, visit a friend or go to a concert or show that looks interesting. Cabin fever can drive anyone absolutely insane, so don’t place yourself under house arrest. Basically, the only way to snap out of a blah-fest is to do something different. Start the day off differently and get into a new mindset. Have fun, my dears!~ What do you do to get out of a boring rut? ♥ posted on January 20, 2010I have a really disgusting amount of purses, bags and wallets. Over the summer, when we had a garage sale, I tried to get rid of the ones I don’t like but I don’t HAVE any that I don’t like. I literally have about 20-25 bags and I cannot bear to part with any of them. So, the last thing I need to do is run out and buy MORE, but that doesn’t stop me from lusting after a few of these beauties.
Recession coin purse from FredFlare.com – $8 Simply Perfect Sling Bag – $20 (also from Fred Flare)
Clutch – Plum Flowers from Field Of Roses on Etsy – $50 I think the reason I love these bags so much is because They are all so much different than any of the ones I already own. & the Recession coin purse is just hilarious. What sort of accessories do you “collect”? ♥ posted on January 16, 2010I’m off for the weekend! Cleaning like a crazy lady, wine and getting my nails did are all on the agenda. I hope you have a lovely weekend as well! A little humor for you: ♥ posted on January 14, 2010This year I’m making it my mission (one of my MANY missions, that is!) to squirrel away at least $3000 for an emergency fund by the end of the year. In order to do that, I need to make some serious changes. Namely, work more, spend less. The thing is, I like stuff. I like shopping and I like lattes and I like sushi. None of these is a particularly cheap habit by nature. BUT I’ve learned a few tricks on how I can indulge in all of these things without spending money as quickly as I receive it. Gotta have… Sushi!Guess what? You can make sushi. Easily. I’m not comfortable working with raw fish myself (though I love eating it!) so I make avocado rolls all the time, but you can do whatever tickles your fancy. Making sushi is actually quite easy and if you’re making avocado or veggie rolls, you can make a whole lot of it for under $10. Tip: You can get pretty much everything you need reasonably priced at any large grocery store, but if you have an Asian market nearby, go there to get supplies at half the cost. Gotta have… Lattes!I’ll be honest, I gave up daily lattes when I started working at home. Now I just drink a ridiculous amount of coffee. But if I was smarter I would invest in an espresso maker (and it IS an investment!) and make them myself each day. If you like to drink them a lot too, the espresso maker pays for itself in just a couple of months. Gotta have… Retail therapy!Me too. Whenever I go shopping, I always hit the thrift stores first so I can get all the impulse buying out of my system while it’s cheap. Dollar stores & department stores are good for this too. Basically, just hit the mall last. Also, you know how when you’re checking out at some stores in the mall and the cashier will ask for your email address? Give it to them. Or head over to your favorite store’s website and sign up for their newsletter there. You can get some really great discount codes this way as well as a heads up on killer sales than might not be advertised anywhere else. You can get really serious about this and even set up a special email account for this purpose to avoid clunking up your regular inbox and to keep everything together to look at when planning your next shopping excursion. Gotta have… A heart of gold!I’m the kind of person that really loves buying kick ass presents for my friends. The thing is, by the time I realize it’s time to get them something for their birthday/anniversary/new job/kid/Christmas, I’m broke! I think the best way to remedy this is to keep some money aside for the sole purpose of buying gifts for others, but that’s not always doable. Another way to solve this? When you see some yummy perfume on sale, buy an extra bottle or two. Same goes for coffee mugs, sweaters, DVDs, whatever. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, just throw it in a box in your closet, and dig through it whenever you need to give someone a gift. Voila! Another way to go is to invite your friend over for dinner, do them a huge favor or teach them something. Your time can sometimes be a much better gift than anything you can buy in a store. ♥ posted on January 13, 2010Chances are, yes. Facebook and Twitter are a lot of fun and, as we all know, endlessly addicting. But spending hours a day on these sites can really inhibit productivity. If you’re having a hard time working through the day without checking your profiles every 20 minutes, taking a day (or week! or month! or life!) off from social networking can’t hurt. Sure, for bloggers it’s a great way to connect and network. But for most people, we are all spending way too much time on these sites playing games or just messing around when we could be using our time much more productively. According to a poll on TwiTip (as of 1/13/10), 42% of those surveyed spend over an hour a day on Twitter – with nearly half of those tweeting 3 hours or more every single day! I know that on most days, I have tweetdeck open pretty much all day and I check it about every 20 minutes or so while I’m working. Insanity! It’s great and I’ve made a few friends through conversations on Twitter, but I could definitely use that time more wisely: writing, catching up on email or my RSS feeds, or even (gasp!) cleaning. So, today I decided to take a day off from Facebook and Twitter. (Actually, my break from Facebook is more indefinite – my latest status reads something along the lines of “I’m quitting facebook until I’m satisfied with my accomplishments.” ) And – surprise, surprise! – I’ve accomplished more today than I have all week. After seeing how much these two sites inhibit my productivity, I’m definitely going to be cutting back on using them. I haven’t decided yet if that means limiting my social networking to evenings or if it means taking more days off. So, if you’re a social networking butterfly, I challenge you to take a day off and see how much more you get done! Do me proud! ♥ posted on January 10, 2010
So, what are your tips on breaking bad habits? What habits would you currently like to get rid of? ♥ posted on…but those who are truly happy know that success takes more than just great ideas. Manifesting your desires and reaching your dreams isn’t just about having a great vision; it takes hard work and lots of it. Nothing worthwhile is easy. The good news is, most people are too lazy to really go after their dreams. That sounds pretty harsh, but it’s the reality. For this reason, you can rest assured that if you work hard, persist and don’t give up on your goals, you will have a really hard time failing.
Success also takes courage. You will eventually need to be brave enough to take a risk, make a tough decision and not simply choose the easiest path. If you’re not completely happy with your life right now, as it is, chances are that there is one thing you sort of know deep down you should do, but are just too terrified. “What’s going to happen? What if I fail?” Well guess what? You might fail. You might go broke, you might end up alone. But you can always pick yourself back up again and rise even stronger. This is infinitely a better option than sticking your head in the sand and shying away from change all your life, no? It’s just a bit more work, as mentioned earlier. So, if you have a vision – for your life, for the world – you need to get going. It’s not going to be easy, but it will be completely worth it. Map it out, write it down and get cracking! |
